Attached: "I55240 F.C. COPYRIGHT BY UNDERWOOD & UNDERWOOD, N.Y. MOST REMARKABLE PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN UNDER THE GROUND SHOWING SAPPERS AT WORK. One of very few photographs of its kind. The picture was made at a distance of 15 metres under the ground and shows French sappers at work. This work is the most dangerous on the fighting front. Mines and counter mines are always being dug and risk from cave-ins is always present. 5/18/17."
