Description:
Attached: "S/229543 COPYRIGHT UNDERWOOD & UNDERWOOD, N.Y. GERMAN SUBMARINE "U-BUY-A-BOND" INSPIRATION FOR YOU TO BUY LIBERTY BONDS. The UC 5, the German mine layer, in Central Park where it will be used as a Liberty Loan Booth. This is the first photo showing the three sections together and gives an idea of the size of the mine laying submersible. The work of moving the sections thru the city was a great task for each section of the submarine weighs about 70 tons. The submarine will be rechristened "U-BUY-A-BOND" and bond selling activities will begin at once. The submarine should prove to be a source inspiration to the public as it has been the lawless work of the submarine which has aroused the world against Germany. The submarine appears to be extremely large, yet it is only 110 feet in length while the torpedo submarines range from two hundred to three hundred feet. With the sinking of the first American transport by a submarine, it will take on unusual signifiance and should arouse the public to the actuality of warfare. 10/23/17."
