Description:
Attached: "S/168325 F.C. COPYRIGHT UNDERWOOD & UNDERWOOD, N.Y. GERMAN PLANE RIDDLED BY BRITISH FIRE BALLS WRECK IN FLANDERS BATTLE. During an unusual intensive bombardment on the Flanders front that German plane ventured over the British lines. The anti-aircraft guns were immediately trained on the Boche plain [sic] and it was fairly riddled with shots before it came down a total wreck. It landed on one side which crumpled up, leaving two battered wings projecting from the smashed body. The airman was killed. The remarkable thing in the bringing down of this plane was the number of times it was hit. Shot after shot pierced the wings before the engine was hit and the plane fell a dottering [sic] mass. British official photo. 2/13/18."
